Downtown Eye Care & The Contact Lens Department is happy to announce that we have opened
up, as of June 8, 2020, to provide routine eye care. In order to maintain a safe environment, we
have made a number of adjustments to our office space, changes to the appointment schedule, and
cleaning and safety protocols that accompany your appointment to keep you and your loved ones,
and our team healthy and safe.
We are following the regulations and guidelines outlined by Health Canada, the Ontario Ministry of
Health, and our regulatory Colleges.
Message Regarding the importance of updating your record prior to the upcoming appointment:
We will need to gather some preliminary information prior to your appointment in order
to schedule the appropriate number of patients required to maintain physical distancing
guidelines. As well, your up-to-date information provides us with an awareness of your
health situation and visual concerns in advance so that we can plan to use your time
efficiently as we attend to your needs.

- All pre-booked appointments have been cancelled until further notice, unless you have been
explicitly informed otherwise. We will contact everyone to notify them of the status of their pre-
Patients will be screened for COVID symptoms at the time of booking and again upon entering
the clinic. Anyone who does not pass the COVID screening questions will be redirected to appropriate health
provider for testing and/or eye care. Exceptions may be made for those on the front lines who have
knowingly come into contact with COVID-positive individuals.
Our appointment schedule has been adjusted to allow for frequent office cleaning and to
maintain physical distancing. We have reserved certain appointment blocks for our vulnerable
population (age 65+, people with chronic disease and/or weakened immune systems).
**We are working hard to accommodate the many patients whose appointments were affected by
the closure, as our schedules have been significantly reduced.
Cleaning and safety protocols that accompany your appointment
Upon arrival, patients are required to check in with security on the ground floor
before proceeding to the elevators. All visits to the office must be scheduled and security will be
informed accordingly. We cannot accept any walk-ins at this time.
Please use the hand sanitizer provided on the main floor near the elevators and also at our front desk.
We require that everyone entering our office wear a mask or face covering that covers their
mouth and nose. This includes those who are accompanying a patient with a scheduled
appointment. (Children under the age of 3 are exempt.)
By extension, our team will be wearing appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment)
throughout the workday. Plexiglass barriers and breath shields have also been put in place
throughout the office.
Disposable options will be used wherever possible; otherwise, strict disinfection protocols have
We ask that you come alone, if possible, and bring only essential personal belongings. If it is
necessary to bring a companion (e.g. accompanying a minor, translator, person to help with
mobility or cognitive concerns, etc.), we will need their name and contact information (phone or
email); they will be screened for COVID as well.
Checkout after the appointment
Prior to the appointment, we will encourage contactless payment such as e-Transfer or credit
card payments to avoid lining up at the front desk.
Follow up instructions/bookings, invoices, receipts and prescriptions can be emailed or faxed to
you as you leave the office.
If you wish to purchase contact lenses or dry eye products, we have an online store with direct
shipping for your convenience.
Interest in prescription glasses or sunglasses services can be booked ahead of time with our
